Camden County High School is proud to announce that Wesley Young has been selected to attend the 2026 Teachers’ Trip to Poland. This program brings North Carolina educators who teach about the Holocaust to an intensive eight- day educational seminar in Poland.
This year, more than 360 teachers applied for just 40 available spots. More than 100 teachers from across North Carolina have participated in the program, representing more than 70 of the state’s 100 counties.
The trip was created in 2022 and is led by Rabbi Fred Guttman, a retired rabbi and Holocaust educator. This summer’s trip will mark the twenty-fifth journey he has led to Poland, including four specifically designed for North Carolina teachers.
The program is fully subsidized through funds raised by Rabbi Guttman from generous donors, ensuring that selected educators can participate at no cost. The co-leader of the trip is Lee Holder, a retired social studies teacher from Kinston who taught for 32 years before retiring in 2020. Among his many accomplishments is the creation of a Holocaust and Modern Genocides elective course at his high school in 1992. Holder, a member of the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust since 2003, oversees recruitment and the selection process.
The program is also supported by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), which annually funds five teachers to participate in the trip.
Camden County Schools congratulates Wesley Young on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to hearing about the experience, as well as seeing how the knowledge and insights gained will be integrated into the school’s curriculum.
